Directors turn villains, is it the new trend in Bollywood?
karan johar Lately, Bollywood directors have been coming in front of the cameras, not for the role of a hero or a life saviour, but to play the roles that of the villains. Karan Johar will be seen as a villain in ‘Bombay Velvet’.

Lately, Bollywood directors have been coming in front of the cameras, not for the role of a hero or a life saviour, but to play the roles that of the villains.

The recent entry into the list is of director Karan Johar, who will be see as a bad boy in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming movie ‘Bombay Velvet’. He sure is one of the surprise elements in the film.

Karan Johar says, “For me, being an actor was both surreal and exciting. And I had no problem being directed by Anurag. Our cinematic sensibilities are completely contrasting, so opposites attracted in the best way possible. I feel he has taught me a lot; it was like being in film school. I enjoyed being on the other side of the camera.”

Likewise, Tigmanshu Dhulia had played a villain in the cult film Gangs Of Wasseypur. His performance was one of the powerful ones in the movie.

Amol Gupte, known for directing movies like ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’, played the bad-boy in ‘Kaminey’. And now it will be Anurag Kashyap’s turn to play the role of a villain in a forthcoming film.

Sunny Leone likes live audience connect

Close on the heels of the release of comedy caper “Kuch Kuch Locha Hai”, actress Sunny Leone performed live during a promotional event here along with singer Shraddha Pandit. She says having such a connect with audiences is important for actors.

Sunny, who was also joined by actor Ram Kapoor, debutant Navdeep Chhabra and director Devang Dholakia for the event, had an interactive session with the fans and was also seen giving autographs and clicking photographs with them.

“I really feel it is increasingly important to connect with your audience at one-on-one level. It was a great idea to have a promotional activity,” Sunny, who performed on tracks like “Paani wala dance” and “Daaru peeke dance”, said in a statement.

She also found the experience satisfying.

“Mumbai is a city where everybody is busy running around, so when you have people stop by to take notice it’s hugely rewarding,” she added.

Talking about the event, Dholakia said: “Our music and promos have already connected with the audience and we thought that there was no better way than starting our on ground promotions than to connect with the audiences one-on-one.”

“Kuch Kuch Locha Hai” will feature Ram as a 45-year-old married man, Pravin Patel, who witnesses a “locha” (turmoil) in his life after he gets a chance to meet Bollywood star Shanaya (Sunny), whom he always fantasised about.

“We really had a blast shooting for this film. I think people would get to see that energy in every frame. Personally for me, this film has been a whole new adventure and I wanted to take this challenge up, head on,” Ram said.

The film, which also stars actress Evelyn Sharma, is set to release on May 8.

New York film festival to showcase 30 Indian films

Thirty shorts, documentaries and feature films will be screened at the annual New York Indian Film Festival, which opens next month with Kalki Koechlin-starrer “Margarita with a Straw”.

The six-day festival, its 15th year, will see the films screened at prestigious venues around New York city from May 4 to 9.

Aparna Sen’s “Saari Raat”, a play in three acts by legendary Bengali playwright and theatre personality Badal Sircar, will be the centrepiece film. Starring Anjan Dutt, Rittwik Chakraborty and Konkona Sen Sharma, it is Sen’s tribute to Sircar, who passed away in 2011.

“Dum Laga Ke Haisha”, the Sharat Katariya-directed film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar will bring down curtains on the festival.

“These selected films, which have won a combined total of nine National Awards, serve as a mirror, and we hope that our audiences can see their lives reflected in these stories,” says festival programmer Aseem Chhabra.

There will be special screenings of films like Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shakespeare trilogy of “Maqbool”, “Omkara” and “Haider”; “Daughters of Mother India”, which focuses on the aftermath of the Delhi gangrape incident; and a documentary on Shyam Benegal’s films “Benegal’s New Cinema”.

Indo-American Arts Council Executive Director Aroon Shivdasani said about the opening film, “We are thrilled to be opening this year’s New York Indian Film Festival with Shonali Bose’s new film ‘Margarita with a Straw’. She has been a rising star in the forefront of India’s growing indie film movement, always pushing the boundaries…”

“Margarita with a Straw” is a poignant portrayal of a rebellious young woman (Kalki) with cerebral palsy, who leaves her home in India to study in New York, unexpectedly falls in love and embarks on an exhilarating journey of self-discovery.

Ranbir Kapoor is outstanding: Sayani Gupta
ranbir kapoor, sayani gupta Actress Sayani Gupta, who is acting alongside Ranbir Kapoor in upcoming film “Jagga Jasoos”, says he is an effortless actor and an involved co-star.

Actress Sayani Gupta, who is acting alongside Ranbir Kapoor in upcoming film “Jagga Jasoos”, says he is an effortless actor and an involved co-star.

Sayani, a relatively new actress has been appreciated for her role of a blind girl in Kalki Koechlin-starrer “Margarita, With A Straw”. She said she had an amazing experience shooting with Ranbir for the Anurag Basu-directed film, which also stars the actor’s rumoured girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

“Ranbir is outstanding. I love him as an actor. I think he is the most brilliant actor in the current generation. He is very effortless. He has a lot of method but you can never see his method. He is constantly thinking bout what he is doing, he is sitting in a corner and completely focused,” Sayani told PTI.

The actress said working with the “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani” star was like a party.

“He was the first actor I met, who knew not only his continuity but his co-actor and the whole scene’s continuity as well. He would even remember which filter was used in the last day’s scene. He is a lot of fun. He is cracking jokes and it is like a party with him,” she said.

Though Sayani has shot only two scenes with Katrina, the actress said she gelled with the “Bang Bang!” star.

“Katrina is very sweet. Although I have shot for only two scenes with her, she was nice to me. In the middle of the shoot, we would discuss funny things and she carries herself really well, with a lot of dignity which I really liked. She is completely gorgeous to look at,” she said.

When asked about her role in the movie, Sayani said, “I am the third wheel in the story. I am not playing Ranbir’s love interest in the film, unfortunately. Eventually if Anurag feels that it could be love, he might write it like that but not yet.”

Sneak peek from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale’ sets
shah rukh khan, rohit shetty, dilwale SRK’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment recently shared a video from the sets on YouTube which gives a sneak peek into the shooting of the film.

Rohit Shetty‘s ‘Dilwale‘ featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon has its shooting going in full swing. The director of the film, who is known to inculcate major action sequences, scenes featuring cars that blow up in his movies has something gearing up this one too.

SRK’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment recently shared a video from the sets on YouTube which gives a sneak peek into the shooting of the film. Giving it the title “A Glimpse of the Dilwale Drift”, one can see director Rohit Shetty watch a scene in a monitor or the camera, while a car hurriedly drifts from his side and stops by the edge of the road (As we try to figure out they’re standing and shooting on a road).

A clean drift by the driver of the car, we see Rohit raise his hand in the end of the video, probably to give a thumbs up to the shot.

With so much of VFX shots and action scenes that no other director would attempt to do, we really think that Rohit might come up with a ‘Fast and Furious’ like movie sometime soon.

The movie also featuring Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever, Chetna Pandey, Mukesh Tiwari and Murli Sharma in pivotal roles will release in India on Christmas.

Watch the video posted by Red Chillies Entertainment here:

A huge responsibility, burden to be star kid: Mahaakshay Chakraborty
mahaakshay chakraborty Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son Mahaakshay, who has so far failed to strike a chord in Hindi showbiz, says it’s a huge responsibility and a burden to be the child of a star.

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son Mahaakshay, who has so far failed to strike a chord in Hindi showbiz, says it’s a huge responsibility and a burden to be the child of a star.

Mahaakshay, who had entered the industry with the name Mimoh, told IANS: “It’s not easy for the star kids. I feel it’s a huge responsibility and a burden being a star kid. I am used to carrying the burden because today no matter what I do, the comparisons will always be there with my father.”

“I’m used to carrying this burden and this has become my biggest strength because I can endure that burden.”

Mahaakshay debuted in 2008 with the film “Jimmy”, which bombed at the box office. Since then, he has been struggling to make a mark in Bollywood. He is currently busy promoting his upcoming film “Ishqedariyan” and says the film is a romantic love story.

“My film is a romantic love story. In fact, it’s a pure heart-touching and honest romantic love story. This is the first time when me and Evelyn Sharma are coming together on screen,” he said.

Directed by V.K. Prakash, “Ishqedariyan” is releasing on May 15.

Wiz Khalifa's tribute to Furious 7's Walker keeps UK chart top spot

Rapper Wiz Khalifa arrives at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards in Las VegasAmerican rapper Wiz Khalifa's tribute to actor Paul Walker, "See You Again", kept the top spot in Britain's music charts for a second week, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday, saying it had also broken the country's all-time streaming record. The song, featuring Charlie Puth, is on the sound track to the movie "Furious 7", and pays tribute to cast member Walker who died during filming in November 2013. A remix of OMI's 2012 reggae song "Cheerleader" held firm at number two, while "Hold My Hand", by Jess Glynne, remained at number three. In the albums chart, American singer songwriter Josh Groban took the top spot with "Stages", a collection of cover versions from well-known Broadway and London West End shows such as Les Miserables, The Wizard of Oz, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Abercrombie & Fitch to ditch 'sexualized marketing' - Washington Post

A woman poses for photographs with shirtless models outside a department store in Singapore's Orchard Road shopping districtRetail clothing chain Abercrombie & Fitch will end by July its "sexualized marketing," after years of blanketing its web sites, store windows and shopping bags with photos of half-naked men, according to the Washington Post. It will also stop using shirtless models or lifeguards at events and store openings for both the Abercrombie & Fitch and the Hollister brands, the newspaper reported late Friday, citing an announcement. Abercrombie & Fitch had come under fire in recent years for its strict dress code and sexualized marketing, and has been in a Supreme Court case for denying a Muslim woman a job because of her head scarf. The changes come as the company faces slumping sales, as teens increasingly move away from the brand, according to the Washington Post.

Now out, Bruce Jenner shines spotlight on transgender inequality

Renee Richards poses for a portrait at her home in Carmel, New YorkBy Mary Milliken LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - In coming out as a transgender woman, U.S. Olympic gold medalist and TV reality star Bruce Jenner made clear that while he is keen to help raise awareness about problems faced by the community, he is not self-appointing himself as a spokesman. During a groundbreaking interview on ABC Friday night, Jenner made a case for the transgender community's fight in the United States for equality, a safer society and more acceptance and understanding - in Washington, in church, in the media. "I would like to work with this community to get this message out. Putting such a well-known face and name to the causes of transgender people could help accelerate the drive for equality, just as high-profile endorsements gave momentum to the fight to legalize gay marriage in the United States, say people who work with the community.
